Your account and your data

This page explains how to get a copy of your data, how to close your account, and how to control what EduPress sends you. The Privacy Policy has the full details.

Download your data

You can download a copy of your data from your account. It contains:

  • your profile
  • the posts and community posts you wrote (their titles)
  • your community comments
  • your messages: the ones you sent and received, and the conversations you started with schools and businesses
  • your connections and connection requests
  • your conversations with Tyra, and what Tyra remembers about you
  • the learning style Tyra has worked out for you
  • your sign-in records: the IP address, the browser or app and the platform from each time you signed in, and any study summaries
  • what you wrote on your profile and CV: education, experience, skills, projects, languages, volunteering, certifications and publications
  • your identity checks: the kind, the result and the dates
  • your consent choices
  • your email and notification settings
  • any requests you made to erase your data

Other people show up in the download only as ID numbers, never with their names or profiles. When someone deleted a message they sent you, it appears blank. The download never contains your ID photos or selfies, or a link to any file you sent in a message. It lists your identity checks by kind, result and date, and says only whether a message had an attachment. The download does not hold everything yet. It leaves out what you've saved, liked or followed, your searches and activity on EduPress, the ads shown to you, your job applications, your payments and your support tickets. It also leaves out the scores and hashes we compute from your ID, your photo and Tyra's notes.

Delete your account

You can delete your account yourself. If your account has a password, you must enter it again. Deleting is immediate. There is no waiting period, and it cannot be undone.

Deleted:

  • your private information
  • your own posts, community posts and comments
  • your CV, profile photo and cover image
  • the records of the identity checks you submitted
  • your sign-in

Kept:

  • An anonymous record named "Deleted User".
  • School news you wrote for a school.
  • Messages in other people's conversations, and messages you sent to schools and businesses.
  • Listings, reviews, payments, donations and reports.
  • Database backups made before updates. EduPress keeps the 10 most recent, so your data can stay in a backup until newer ones replace it.

Two rules apply:

  • Last owners can't delete. If you are the last owner of a school or business page, hand over ownership first.
  • Guardians are told. If a guardian is linked to your account, they are told that you deleted it.

What we record about your use

  • Sign-in details. Each time you sign in or sign up, EduPress records your IP address, your browser or app (the user agent) and whether you used the web or the app. You can't turn this off. It's kept until you delete your account.
  • Study summaries. No EduPress app sends study summaries today, so EduPress isn't collecting them from you. There's nothing to switch on, and the Data privacy page has no switch for it. Anything sent by an older version of the app is in your download and is deleted with your account. Nothing in EduPress uses your camera to measure attention. The camera is used only when you take a photo yourself: a profile photo, a school ID photo, a photo for a post, an ID document for a job application, or a school's live broadcast.

Emails and notifications

  • Emails. EduPress emails come in five kinds: marketing, notifications, billing, events and system. All are switched on when you join. Switch any of them off in your account settings.
  • Notifications. Choose which notifications you get, and how you get them.
  • Profile views. Seeing who viewed your profile is something you opt into.
