Guide for businesses
How a business creates its page, posts listings, and talks to people on EduPress.
Guide for businesses
A business page on EduPress works like a company page on a professional network. It belongs to the business, not to a person. Students, families and schools can follow it, read its posts, and answer its listings.
Creating a page
You can create a business page in two ways.
- On its own. Go to Create a company page. You do not need a personal EduPress account. The page signs in at Business sign-in with its own email address and a password of at least 12 characters. Before it can sign in, you enter the 6-digit code we email to that address. You choose your industry and company size from fixed lists.
- From your personal account. An adult member with a confirmed email address or phone number can create a page from their account. You can have one page application waiting for review at a time. The person who creates the page becomes its owner.
- Joining an existing page. Any verified adult member can ask to become an admin of a page. An owner, or the page's own sign-in, approves the request.
The details you give about the person responsible for the page are seen by EduPress only. They are never shown on the page.
Review before the page goes live
Every new page starts as pending. EduPress reviews it and either approves or rejects it. EduPress can also suspend a page later. A rejection or suspension always comes with a written reason.
Until the page is approved, it is hidden from the public. You can still edit its details. You cannot publish listings, events, posts, locations, highlights, Life sections or photos, affiliated pages or campaigns, and you cannot read or answer messages or see applicants.
Who runs the page
A page has two roles:
- Owner. Owners run the page and are the only ones who can add, change or remove admins.
- Content admin. Content admins help manage what the page publishes.
A page always keeps at least one owner. EduPress will not remove the last one. Admins must be adults. New admins are invited, accept or decline from their invitations list, and an invitation expires after 30 days. The page's own sign-in counts as an owner, but it cannot top up a budget or invite connections.
What your page shows the public
Your page can show:
- your cover image and logo
- your name, tagline, industry and description
- your website, phone number, company size, founding year and specialties
- one action button or a "Visit website" link
- your headquarters and links to up to six social networks
- your locations, your highlights, and a "Verified page" date
- Life sections and photos, upcoming events, and affiliated pages
- your listings and posts (signed out, the web page shows up to 12 listings, 8 posts and 6 items in each of Life, People and Events; signed-in members see all of them)
- your follower count
EduPress never shows:
- Who your followers are. Only the number is shown.
- Your sign-in email address.
- Who wrote each post. Posts appear as your page.
Your admins are listed on the page only if each one chooses to be. Nobody is listed by default, and minors are never listed.
Posts
Your posts are published straight away. They appear on your page's Posts tab and in your followers' home feeds, and followers who turned on notifications are told.
You can invite your own connections to follow your page, up to 250 in all. People under 18 are never offered for invitation.
Listings
A business page can post two kinds of listing: business listings and jobs.
- Every listing is reviewed. Each new listing waits for EduPress review before it goes live, and so does every edit.
- Listings follow their dates. A listing is shown only between its start and end dates.
- Age. A job is open to people aged 16 and over; nobody younger can apply. EduPress can also set a minimum age between 13 and 99 on a listing. Visitors who are not signed in see only listings open to all ages.
Read the Listings and advertising policy before you post.
Applications and questions
To apply to your job, a person must:
- be signed in with a student, parent or school staff account (not a visitor account)
- have a verified ID
- be at least 16
Applicants under 18 also need a guardian linked to their account, and their guardian gets a notice. Each person can apply to a listing once. EduPress sends you the CV they upload; if they upload none and are in Senior 4 or above, EduPress builds one from their school record.
You move each applicant through the stages Submitted, Reviewed, Shortlisted, Interview, Offer or Rejected, and the applicant is told of each change.
An applicant's contact details are released to you when you move them to the interview stage. For an applicant under 18, their guardian must also agree for that particular application.
Members can also send you questions about a listing. Questions arrive as notifications to every admin of your page. If the person asking is under 18, their guardian is told.
Messages
Only members can start a conversation with your page. Your page can reply, but it cannot start one.
A member under 18 can message your business only if their guardian has allowed contact with your business. The guardian is told when they message you and when you reply (at most once a week for each), and can withdraw permission at any time.
Advertising
An approved page can run a campaign to promote one of its own published listings.
- Budget. The daily budget and the total budget must each be at least UGX 100, and the total must be at least the daily budget.
- Review. Each campaign is reviewed by EduPress before it runs. After approval, you can pause it and resume it.
- Who may see it. Paid adverts are only ever for signed-in adults. Children never see them.
- Cost. The standard price is UGX 50 for each person who sees your advert. Each person is counted once a day. A campaign stops when its budget runs out.
- Topping up. A member admin of the page tops up the budget, at least UGX 100 at a time, with mobile money through Flutterwave. The money is added once Flutterwave confirms the payment.
- Ad library. Anyone can see which of your adverts ran and when. Nobody else sees your budgets.
Services marketplace
Adults with a confirmed email address or phone number can offer services and hire others in the services marketplace.
- Requests. A request goes to one named provider, for a service that provider offers. The provider sends a proposal, and the buyer accepts or declines it.
- Completion. Only the provider can mark the work complete, and only after the buyer has accepted the proposal.
- Reviews. The buyer can then leave one review, rated from 1 to 5.
- Payment. EduPress does not take payment for services.
