Guide for schools

On EduPress a school has its own page, like a company page on a professional network. The page belongs to the school, not to any one person. The school publishes news, results, events and opportunities. Students, families and the public follow along.

Registering your school

Go to Register your school. There are three steps.

  1. School.
    • Your website. Press Fetch to fill in your profile from it.
    • Your school's name, type and location.
    • The school's own email address. The school signs in to its page with this address, so it must be different from your personal email.
  2. Admin. Your name, work email and (optionally) phone number. Then a password of at least 12 characters for your own account. If you already use EduPress, give that account's email; your password stays the same.
  3. Review. Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Then upload proof that the school is registered: a PDF, JPG or PNG of up to 5 MB. The proof is stored privately and is seen only by EduPress reviewers.

A few rules apply to email addresses:

  • Your work email can't be a throwaway address. Personal addresses such as Gmail or Yahoo are accepted, but the reviewer is told.
  • Each application needs its own email. Your email can't already be on another application. If you already use EduPress, apply with that account's email. The school's email can't be one another school already signs in with.

After you submit, EduPress emails a 6-digit code to confirm the address. The code works for 10 minutes.

Review and approval

EduPress staff review every application.

  • If approved, EduPress creates your school's page on a 30-day trial that counts as Starter, then moves it to Free. The person who applied becomes the school's owner, with full access. EduPress emails both the applicant and the school's address.
  • If rejected, the applicant is emailed the reason.

EduPress can close new school registrations at any time.

The school signs in as itself

  • Where. The school signs in to its own page at School sign-in, with the school's email address. To set its first password, use Forgot password.
  • Web only. School sign-in is on the web. It is not in the mobile app.
  • What it can do. Signed in as itself, a school can edit its page details, ask EduPress to change its core details, and manage its team: invite people, answer join requests, and change or remove members. Everything else, including the inbox and the alumni list, is done by people on the team.

Everyday work is usually done by the people on the school's team. See the guide for school team members.

What your school can publish

  • Posts.
    • Formats: articles, photos, videos (from YouTube or uploaded), documents of up to 20 MB, and image galleries.
    • Timing: you can save drafts and schedule posts.
    • Deleting: deleted posts go to the trash, and you can restore them from there.
    • Sections: posts are organised in sections. A "News" section is created for you.
  • Exam results.
    • What is shown: by default, only school totals (a summary) are published. You can choose to publish individual results instead: names, division, aggregate or points, and subject grades.
    • What is never shown: candidates' photos and index numbers are never public.
    • Formats: EduPress supports PLE, UCE, UACE, IGCSE, IB, A-Level, SAT and other exam formats.
  • Events.
  • Newsletters, with co-authors you invite.
  • Quizzes.
  • Listings.
    • Types: business, job, programme, admission and offer listings.
    • Publishing: a school's listings go live straight away.
    • Minimum age: you can set one between 13 and 99.
  • Communities.
    • Visibility: public or private.
    • Joining: open to anyone, or by approval (approval is the default).
    • Roles: members can be members or leaders.
  • Fundraisers.
    • Who creates them: community leaders, with a target of at least UGX 1,000.
    • Payout account: only the school's owner can set the account that receives the money, by MTN, Airtel or bank. A new payout account is held for 48 hours before it can be used.
  • Live video through YouTube. Streams are created as unlisted.

Some features depend on your school's plan.

Who is notified

  • Posts. When you publish a post, your followers are notified.
  • Announcements and events. These reach your followers and every active account linked to your school.

Review of what schools publish

A system admin at EduPress can turn on review for school posts, exam results, events and community posts. Each of the four has its own switch, and all four are off until an admin turns one on. While a switch is off, what you publish goes live straight away.

While a switch is on, a new item waits as a draft until it has been checked. The automated check, an AI model run by NVIDIA, reads a school's posts, events and exam results, and the posts its staff make in a community. A member's post in a community never reaches the automated check. When review is on for that community, a person checks it.

  • It can publish. For a school post, an event, or a post its staff make in a community, the automated check publishes the item by itself when it approves it with at least 90% confidence. No person looks at it first.
  • It can send things back. If it rejects an item, the item goes back to draft with a note saying why. If it is unsure, or the service is down, the item waits for a person.
  • It reads text only. The check can't see photos, videos or documents. Anything that has a photo, a video, a document, a slideshow or an embedded player always waits for a person, however the text reads. So does anything it can't read in full, such as a very long post.
  • It never approves exam results. A person always publishes results, though the automated check can send one back to draft.
  • A person has the last word. Once a person has approved or returned an item, the automated check changes nothing. Text that tries to give the checker instructions always goes to a person.

Messages from members

Your school can have an inbox.

  • Turning it on. Messaging is off until someone with the settings permission turns it on and chooses at least two topics: admissions, fees, results, events or general. Turning it off stops new conversations only.
  • Who writes first. A member always starts the conversation. Your school can only reply.
  • Who reads and replies. Team members with the messages permissions. Replies are signed as the school, never as the person who typed them, and each one is recorded. The school's own sign-in cannot reach the inbox.
  • Children. Someone under 18 can write to your school only while a guardian allows it, and the guardian receives a copy of every reply. Messages are text only.

Your alumni list

EduPress builds your alumni list for you. An adult former pupil appears once someone on your school's side has approved them into your school's main community. Under-18s never appear.

  • People can hide themselves from every alumni list. Your school cannot hide them.
  • Team members with the users permission can remove a wrong entry and restore it. Both are recorded, and the person is told when they are removed.

Your public page

Your page at /school/your-school shows:

  • your cover image, logo, name, type or tagline, and location
  • your website, description, founding year, specialties and social links
  • the number of approved students and community leaders (numbers only, never names)
  • a "News from your school" card that asks readers to sign in: your posts are shown only to signed-in members
  • a preview of your team, open jobs and upcoming events
  • your map pin (you can hide it) and a Message button
  • for signed-in members, your alumni list

Your team is listed only if each person chooses to be. Only adults are listed. Students on the team are listed only at higher-education institutions. A listing shows a name, role and photo, never an email address or phone number.

Plans and payment

Plan Price per month
Free UGX 0
Starter UGX 40,000
Professional UGX 75,000
Institution UGX 200,000
  • Paying yearly costs 20% less.
  • Trial: a 30-day trial is available on Starter or Professional.
  • How to pay: schools pay with mobile money through Flutterwave. EduPress can also send an invoice, normally due in 30 days.
  • If a payment is not made, the school moves to the Free plan. Reminders are sent 7, 3 and 1 days before a subscription or trial ends.

Changing your school's core details

  • You can edit yourself (with the settings permission): your description, tagline, specialties, highlights, locations and map pin, founding year, website and social links, logo, cover and colour. Every change is recorded.
  • Through "Request a change": your school's name, web address, type, status, sign-in email or plan. Only EduPress changes these. A save that includes any of them is refused as a whole, and each request reaches EduPress support.

Leaving EduPress

To leave, contact EduPress.

  • Archiving. EduPress archives a school with a written reason. Archiving suspends the school's page, cancels its subscription and, by default, suspends the accounts linked to it.
  • Deleting. A school can be deleted only when no accounts are linked to it. Its media is deleted with it.
